Learning from the success stories of successful entrepreneurs is what the Shark Brand is all about.  Innvervation Lab takes the stories of successful entrepreneurs and combines it with the research of entrepreneurial scholar Dr. Saras Sarasvathy to inspire and teach people of all ages and backgrounds to build successful ventures.

Dr. Sarasvathy has discovered that successful entrepreneurs share a common approach to problem solving.  It’s not planning. It’s not forecasting. It’s called “effectuation”.

Effectuation

To effectuate means “to put into action – to make happen.” It also describes the set of principles entrepreneurs use to make decisions, solve problems and create value. Named by academics and used by entrepreneurs – it’s brought to corporations and large institutions by us!

This mindset works when:

• Goals are ambiguous: it’s particularly difficult to choose what to pursue

• The future is unknowable: beyond just uncertain, it’s unpredictable

• Data is conflicting: it’s not clear what to pay attention to and what to ignore

Our team

We help companies develop entrepreneurial competency. Our team is comprised of people from different backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common – we’re all entrepreneurs. Each of us has founded a startup, participated in an incubator, worked as a corporate intrapreneur – or all three! We combine this with in-depth corporate knowledge. Our methodology is grounded in the field of effectuation, pioneered by one of our advisors, Dr. Saras Sarasvathy at UVa’s Darden School of Business.
